In 1957, a group of the Lake Wales Methodist church members organized and started a weekday preschool and kindergarten at the church. The First United Methodist Preschool (FUMP) continues to serve the local community today. The preschool is a half-day, informal learning experience for boys and girls from two through four years of age. It is a non-profit program and is governed by a committee of church members. FUMP follows the Lake Wales Charter Schools school year calendar and is open from 7:15 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. During the school year, the preschool offers two and three year old programs as well as a four year old VPK (Voluntary Prekindergarten) program. FUMP is an eligible provider of Florida’s Voluntary Prekindergarten program which offers prekindergarten to all four year old children.
